Molecular and Microbial Biologist: Maria Teresa Rodriguez was born in the Dominican Republic in 1942, and she married her high school sweetheart. They moved to New York City in 1965 after he received a job offer there. She studied chemistry at Lehman College for her undergraduate degree, after which she had two children and obtained a Masters degree from Columbia University. She found work as a lab technician at Yale University where she remained until 1991. She then transferred from the research track to teaching full-time because she wanted to spend more time with her family. She worked alongside Thomas H. Morgan at Columbia University, which is where she received her Ph.D. in molecular biology in 1971. She is the author of two books, "Clinical Biochemistry" (1996) and "Clinical Chemistry for Medical Students" (1995). She was one of the founding members of the "Medical Women's International Association." She received her B.S. in chemistry at Lehman College of the City University of New York (CUNY) in 1970, and went on to receive her M.S. at Columbia University’s Teachers College in 1972. She then received her Ph.D. in molecular biology from Columbia University in the same year that she married Ricardo Lopez-Coronel, which she later divorced after having two children, Jose Antonio and Rosa Ana Lopez-Coronel. She then became a technician in the department of genetics at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons until 1991, before becoming an assistant professor at Lehman. She also attended the Medical Women’s International Association (MWIA) conference held in Kyoto, Japan in 1985, which inspired her to establish an MWIA chapter for Latin American women. She retired from teaching after the birth of her second child. Rodriguez-Patino has written two books, one translated into several languages titled "Clinical Biochemistry" along with another book titled "Clinical Chemistry for Medical Students". The former was reviewed by the AAAS journal Science, that described it as being "an authoritative resource for practicing physicians to have on hand. The written chapters explain biochemical concepts clearly and comprehensively, and the book’s extensive tables and illustrations help place the concepts into context." The latter contains brief explanations of biochemistry along with special tables and illustrations. Both books were published in 1996 and 1995 respectively. Rodriguez-Patino has also written numerous journal articles, including one article titled "Automatic Assembly of Long-Chained Polymers from Small Molecular Weight Compounds" published in "Biochemistry". She has also written several book chapters as well as editorials for several journals such as "Journal of Cellular Physiology", "Clinical Chemistry", "Journal of Biological Chemistry" and “Molecular Biology Reports”. cfa1e77820
