Arctic Monkeys’ AM is a complete return to form for the British rockers. It's as if the three years between Humbug and Suck It And See were just a bad dream. AM was released on 11 September 2013, and it is Arctic Monkeys' sixth studio album. The first single, titled "Do I Wanna Know?", was released on 30 July 2013 and second single "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?" was released on 19 August 2013. The band unveiled their new sound via YouTube trailers soon after announcing the album's release date in an interview with Zane Lowe of BBC Radio 1Xtra on 22 March 2013. The band's frontman Alex Turner has revealed that the album was written and recorded at their own pace. Quite unlike the hectic production of their two previous records. Alex said in an interview with NME, “I think there’s a more relaxed approach to this record, I mean we did take our time recording it and kind of had no deadlines or anything like that which I think breeds a little more of a relaxed atmosphere when you’re making things. It’s certainly less frantic than our last couple of records.” Arctic Monkeys also stated that they were influenced by The Strokes' 2011 album "Angles". A cover of The Strokes' song "New York City Cops" was also included in the set list for the band's 2013 UK tour. It was performed live in full for the first time at their show at Wembley Stadium on 12 July 2013, and released as a single on 22 August 2013. The band's lead guitarist Josh Homme provided guitar work on two tracks from the album: "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High" and "Play Beard". The latter has been described by Alex Turner himself as being a song which is about "puberty, getting a girl pregnant and finding your parents in bed together. And also a song about playing the drums and I guess some kind of existential angst". Drummer Matt Helders had this to say about AM: “It’s definitely a more rock album I think. There’s definitely a lot of energy on it. It’s not like funky or anything like that, but it’s fiercer somehow. It’s got balls, which is good." [ARTICLE FINISH] The music found on AM is more 'rock' than the band's earlier albums which featured the typical alternative and indie rock sound. The album features English singer-songwriter Alexandra "Ali" Pitts, who sings back up vocals on three tracks. On the concept of the album the band said: “It’s definitely an album that has a theme, but it’s not necessarily one that everyone will detect. I think it’ll be up to people to figure out their own little interpretations.” All tracks written by Alex Turner, Matt Helders and Andy Nicholson Arctic Monkeys - AM (2013) tracklist: 1.
